Google India’s Country Head & Vice-President, Sanjay Gupta addressed in the tweet that, in this era of technology, there are more than 500 million active users of the internet and among them nearly 450 million access Internet from their smartphones. The current COVID-19 crisis has shown us the importance of credible & authoritative information. He further added that Google has been working closely with the World Health Organisation(WHO) and the Ministry of Family Health & Welfare to provide authentic information over more than 11,000 thousand food & night COVID shelters, spread across 700 cities of India. MyGov and Various State Governments have been the major participating bodies for the works.

Google has shown its resilience and adaptability towards bigger unexpected challenges. Google’s GPay provided fingertip access for contribution to PM Cares Fund and total contribution crossed the mark of ₹120 crores. The partnership of Google India with ICMR(Indian Council of Medical Research) and MyGov has surfaced 600 authorized COVID testing centers, spread across 300 Indian cities on Google Maps. Google is ready to tackle challenges in India related to the field of health, education, or agriculture. Gupta also stated the Mission of Google India is to ‘Make the Internet helpful for a billion Indians & Empower India to become a leading Digital Economy’.

Google is a proud partner of India’s Digitization journey since 2004. Sundar Pichai announced the ‘Google for India Digitization Fund’. Through this fund, Google would invest ₹75,000 crore which is nearly $10 billion dollars for the next 5-7 years in India. They will do this by equity investments, partnerships, and operational infrastructure investments.

Four areas of investments that will focus on India’s digitization would be, access of information to every Indian in their own language, building new products and services, empowering businesses towards digital transformation, and using technology and Artificial Intelligence(AI) in areas like health, education, and agriculture. Google will flow along with the Indian government and PM Narendra Modi for the realization of the vision of ‘Digital India’.

India is the 2nd largest mobile manufacturing country in the world. Google will focus on enabling more high quality and low-cost smartphones.

More than 26 million small and medium businesses are searchable across Google Maps, driving more than 150 million direct connections like calling, taking online orders between businesses and customers.

The launch of ‘Google Pay business‘, eight months ago, received wide response and regular usage from more than 3 million merchants helping in contactless payments, Caesar Sengupta (Vice-President, Payments & Next Billion Users, Google) added.

Within 2 months, the launch of ‘Nearby Stores Spot‘ platform gathered the attention of more than 2 million users for offline merchant discoverability and helped in finding and buying desired essentials.

Similarly, Google Jobs has made it easier to for job seekers and employers to bridge the gap of demands of the laborers in various sectors. Two new features are introduced i.e, ‘Remote Work’ feature and ‘Remote Listings’ which enables the necessary workforce to work even from home. Moreover, an edutainment series for small and medium businesses, in partnership with Prasar Bharti will also be launched. It will let us know, how small businesses can adapt to digital tools to flourish themselves.

The COVID-19 outbreak impacted more than 320 million students in India due to school closures, Sapna Chadha(Senior Country and Marketing Director, Google India, and Southeast Asia) stated. To address this situation and to facilitate remote learning, Google launched ‘Teach from Home’ which provides an online platform for student-teacher interaction in various Indian languages. Resources like Google classroom helps teachers to teach even when they aren’t in the school’s classroom. It received an overwhelming response from more than 4 lac educators. Google also announced a partnership with CBSE for skill education and training. The expectation of Google is to reach 1 million teachers in more than 22 thousand schools across India. Kaivalya Education Foundation with will empower over 7,000 teachers over the next one year. The project is estimated at $1 million.
