Business icon Anand Mahindra buys home for ‘Idli Amma’

Renowned Business tycoon Anand Mahindra has promised to invest in the idli shop of the Tamil Nadu women who sell the most popular South Indian food Idli at just Re 1. Even during the lockdown phase, she continued to maintain the same price and quality. K Kamalathal who is also known as ‘Idli Amma’ went viral on social sites and soon it became a household name after it was discovered that she was selling the South Indian staple food at just Re 1 for three decades.

When Anand Mahindra shared her story on Twitter, people were highly impressed and showed respect from the heart for her dedication to feed the poor.

This 80-year old lady K Kamalathal is from Vadivelampalayam village which is near Peru and sells idlis for only one rupee per piece along with sambhar and chutney. Her main initiative is not to increase the price but to feed the daily wage workers at an affordable price instead of burning their pockets. Through these initiatives, she helps them in saving more money for their families.

Well, Anand Mahindra was highly impressed by her work and willing to invest in her business. He promised to buy her an LPG burner as she was making idlis on the wood burner. By following Mahindra’s viral tweet, Bharat Gas Coimbatore came forward to provide Idli Amma with new LPG connections. Recently, Anand Mahindra has brought her a new home.

Mahindra tweeted, ‘Only rarely does one get to play a small part in someone’s inspiring story, and I would like to thank Kamalathal, better known as Idli Amma, for letting us play a small part in hers. She will soon have her own house cum workspace from where she will cook & sell idli.’

Rarely, you will find anyone thinking so much about the poor under any circumstances.
