Cabinet approves setting up of National Technical Textiles Mission

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved to set up a National Technical Textiles Mission on 26 February. The Mission estimated a total cost of Rs.1480 crore.  Aim: The aim of the mission is to position India as a global leader in Technical Textiles. The Mission will have an implementation period of 4 years from FY 2020-21 to 2023-24. Highlights: Technical Textiles are the futuristic and nice segment of textiles. They are used for various applications ranging from agriculture, roads, railway tracks, sportswear, health on one end to bulletproof jacket, fireproof jackets, high altitude combat gear and space applications on other end of the spectrum. The four components of the Mission are: 1) Research, Innovation, and Development 2) Promotion and Market Development 3) Export Promotion 4) Education, Training, Skill Development It will focus on the usage of technical textiles in various flagship missions, programmes of the country including strategic sectors. A Mission Directorate headed by an eminent expert in the related field will be constituted for the implementation of the Mission.
