Celebrate International Forest Day with an objective – “Save forests to save a life”

Since 2012, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 21st March as the International Forest Days. This day is celebrated to spread awareness and make people understand the significance of all types of forests. 21st March is a reminder of the value of forests in the life of every living creatures. Forest gives us food, water, a shelter for several animals and also helps human beings in innumerable ways.

2021 Theme on International Forest Day

Well, in 2021, the theme of the International Forest Day is “Forest Restoration”, a path towards recovery and well-being. However, sustainable management and restoration of the forest help in solving the issues related to climate change and biodiversity.

However, it carries the potential for producing services and goods for sustainable development, fostering an economic activity that creates jobs and improves lives.

On this day, countries from different parts of the world are motivated towards taking the initiatives undertake local, national as well as international efforts for conducting activities for trees and forests like tree-planting campaigns.

It is the United Nations Forum on Forests and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in collaboration with the government, the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, and the other similar organizations in the field are the organizers.

Significance of the International Forest Days

One of the prime ways to combat climate change is through the sustainable management of forests along with the judicious use of resources. It contributes to the prosperity as well as the well-being of the current and future generations. Moreover, forests also have some important role to play in the eradication of poverty and also in the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
