Central government announced BR Ambedkar’s Birthday as a public holiday

The Central government of India has announced that 14th April 2021 as a public holiday as it marks the birthday of DR. B R Ambedkar.

The Center marks, “It has been decided to declare Wednesday, 14th April 2021 as a public holiday on account of the birthday of Dr. B R Ambedkar, for all Central Government Offices, including Industrial Establishments throughout India by invoking the powers under Section 25 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.”

Moreover, the Centre has now made a similar announcement that in the last year it had declared that 14th April as a national holiday. This year the whole of India will be celebrating the 130th birth Anniversary on 14th April.

Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar was born on 14th April, 1891 in Mhow. He is the leader of Dalits and the law minister of the government of India. While contesting Mahatma Gandhi’s claim to speak for Dalits, he composed “What Congress and Gandhi Have Done to the Untouchables (1945). Ambedkar’s another composition “The Buddha and His Dhamma” appeared posthumously in 1957. However, this book was republished as “The Buddha and His Dhamma: A Critical Edition in 2021” which as edited, introduced as well and annotated by Aakash Singh Rathore and Ajay Verma.

Dr. BR Ambedkar is known as the Father of the Constitution of India and civil rights activist. Well, his birthday is known as Bhim Jayanti and the banks remain close on Ambedkar Jayanti.

BR Ambedkar was also known as a renowned social reformer and a Dalit icon. However, he spoke unequivocally against the injustice, inequality, and discrimination which is faced by the members of the Dalit community. Currently, he is considered as the key architect of the constitution of India who went to become the first law and justice minister of independent India. In 1990, for his immense contribution, he was awarded India’s highest civilian honor the Bharat Ratna.

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions declared in a notification today that April 14 will be a public holiday for all central government offices including industrial establishments.

Rahul Gandhi posted on Twitter, “India is now proving that it is indeed possible to regress in time. Today, we remember Babasaheb who asked the difficult questions that helped put our country on the path of progress. #AmbedkarJayanti”

Ministry of Textiles posted “Commemorating the 130th Birth anniversary of Dr. B.R Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian constitution. Dr. Ambedkar made incomparable contribution in nation building. #MOT #AmbedkarJayanti #AmbedkarJayanti2021”
