China appears to be targeting dozens of organizations via Cyberattack

“As Indo-China battles raged in the Himalayas taking at least 2 dozen of lives, China is up with its way to enter into Indian organizations controlling systems that help in the management of the national power grid through computing electricity supply over the nation! – stated by the recent reports.”

On October 12’ 2020 in Mumbai, after the heated battle, bashing each other to death with rocks and clubs, more than 1500 miles away in Mumbai, the market was shut as the power went out in a city of 19.5 million+ people. The dark lingered all over the streets and hospitals had to turn on emergency generators to keep ventilators running amid the Covid-19 outbreak, trying hard to handle the worst and more. It lasted a few hours starting at 10 a.m. and was resolved at noon.

The fact of the matter is these two incidents could be linked.

Since November last year, reports have stated that a malware attack was suspected by the Maharashtra Cyber department that may be behind the power outage in Mumbai.

According to the NYT report, Chinese government-sponsored groups have entered networks of at least a dozen organizations that operate electric utilities, as well as a high-voltage transmission substation and a coal-fired power plant. They form part of the core and central units managed by the Indian State. China attempted to insert malicious software in mid-2020 to cause widespread disturbance in the country.

The targeted organizations involve NTPC Limited, NTPC’s Kudgi power plant, Southern Regional Load Despatch Centre, Western Regional Load Despatch Centre, North Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre, Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre, Telangana State Load Despatch Centre, Delhi State Load Despatch Centre, VO Chidambaranar Port and Mumbai Port Trust, the DTL Tikri Kalan (Mundka) sub-station of Delhi Transco Ltd. According to the NCIIPC (National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection center’s- all targeted organizations would qualify as critical infrastructure.

The study indicates that the malware stream was composed by Recorded Future, a company from Somerville, Massachusetts. It is a business unit that looks after the use of the Internet by states through. It was found that the network malware was never fully activated, where a small amount caused the and as it could not enter India’s power and control systems, it could not scrutinize the attributes of the code itself.

Recorded Future’s chief operating officer- Stuart Solomon said that China-linked or sponsored group, “RedEcho” has been seen to orderly utilize advanced cyber intrusion ways of quietly stepping into Indian units controlling panels- power generation and transmission infrastructure.

“A new report indicates that the China-related threat group, RedEcho, may have been at fault.”- not fully sure!

Recorded Future reported its uncoverings to India’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). The receipt acknowledged the data but didn’t stamp it whether it had found the malware in the Indian networks- The New York Times reported.

Hence, the Indo-China relations are turning out to be quite threatening, and let’s see what all comes on the way, stand for the right!
