Draupadi Murmu is the India’s first president from the tribal community.

Draupadi is the first female tribal leader of Odisha State who has been appointed to a governorship of a state in India. After Pratibha Patil, who was Indias first woman president, the former Governor of Jharkhand created history and inspired an entire tribal community with her political success. Despite belonging to the Santali tribal family and having not had sufficient resources in her life, Draupadi Murmu,s journey from being in a small village of Orissa to becoming President of India is just historical. If Draupadi Murmu wins the Presidential Elections of 2022, Draupadi Murmu would become the first tribal, and second woman, to serve as the next President of India.

As part of her 2022 presidential campaign, Draupadi Murmu has visited different states to witness the support of lawmakers of the Bharatiya Janata Party and other Opposition parties for her candidacy. With good performance in BJPs NDA presidential campaign, Draupadi Murmu was eventually able to become the first tribal person to be governor of the Jharkhand State. From March 6, 2000, till August 6, 2000, while Bharatiya Janata Party-Biju Janata Dal were allies, Draupadi Murmu was a state minister, having the Independent Charge for Commerce & Transport, she was also in charge for Fisheries and Animal Resource Development from August 6, 2002, till May 16, 2004. NDA presidential candidate, Draupadi Murmu is also the first tribal woman to be the Governor of Jharkhand state, and also BJD supported her for presidential elections, since she is from Orissa State & the great guidance under her government on Governance.

A two-term ex-MLA of Rairangpur, Murmu retained his Assembly seat in 2009, when the BJD broke its alliance with the BJP weeks before state elections, which were won by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. A two-time legislator for the BJP from Orissa, Droupadi Murmu was a cabinet minister under Naveen Patnaik when the Biju Janata Dal, or BJD, was ruling Jharkhand with BJP backing. Droupadi Murmu, an Orissa native, would face off against a former Union Minister, Yashwant Sinha, who has been named the Oppositions nominee. With over 60% votes cast in her favour, Draupadi Murmu, presidential candidate of the ruling Indian National Democratic Alliance (NDA) alliance, is likely to be the first tribal president in the country, and second woman to hold the post.
