London- the cab-service provider Uber plans to recruit 20,000 more drivers in the United Kingdom to help fill raising demands as the country’s coronavirus lockdown restrictions ease.
On Thursday, the San-Francisco-based ride-hailing company stated- it aims to sign up the additional drivers by the end of the year, adding to the 70,000 it already has in the UK.
Since April 12, Uber said United Kingdom trips have jumped by 50%. At the time British pubs and restaurants were reopened to serve outdoor meals and drinks. It was done as part of the government’s plan to relax COVID-19 rules. The remaining rules or restrictions are expected to be lifted by June 2021, only in case of a halt in virus cases.
Uber’s talent-hiring drive in the United Kingdom underscores a wider bounce-back for the firm after demand increased out in 2020 during the depth of the global pandemic.
The company has already said it is offering sign-up bonuses and other sorts of incentives to the United States after total monthly bookings. It also involves food delivery and passenger services. And these hit in all-time in March.
The firm said that the new United Kingdom drivers will be entitled to benefits such as pensions, holiday plans, and more to motivate them for better service and work. It started offering after the UK Supreme Court recently ruled that Uber drivers should be classed as workers, or employees and let them enjoy all the benefits any other employee does.
After being in a long conflict between the company and drivers, finally, the court took its command and announced a feasible result which goes perfectly in favor of employees, and saved them from getting exploited, and even Uber is on the same pace now.
