Final hearing in Vijay Mallya’s UK extradition case today

Vijay Mallya’s extradition case has reached the concluding stage with the final hearing scheduled for today. The prosecution and the defense will present their concluding remarks in front of the chief magistrate at the Westminster Magistrates Court in London.

The Crown Prosecution Services (CPS) is arguing the case on behalf of India. The final judgment will likely be delivered in September when the court resumes after its summer recess.

Mallya, the 61-year-old chief of the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines who owes over Rs 9,000 crore to various Indian banks, has been living in a self-imposed exile in Britain since March last year.

He was arrested by Scotland Yard in April this year on fraud allegations, triggering an official extradition process in the British courts. He is out on bail.
