GiveIndia and PATH will oversee Google’s oxygen program and provide management and logistics support.
Google India announced that it will support procurement and installation of about 80 oxygen generation plants in rural locations of the country. Additional grants worth $15 million through two non-profit organisations.
GiveIndia and PATH will oversee Google’s oxygen program and provide project management and logistics and installation of the plants. PATH will identify locations for the oxygen plants and provide technical assistance for the project.
With the second wave cases going down in India, the country is preparing for the third wave across the country. This initiative will help the country’s crumbling health infrastructure.
In May, Google had raised at least $4.6 million through an internal donation for COVID-19 relief in India. Non-profit organisations like GiveIndia, Charities Aid Foundation India, GOONJ, and United Way of Mumbai helped Google in fund-raising.
Rs 109 crore will be provided as grants and aid to provide the required support and necessary logistics for the aforementioned procurement of oxygen plants in the country. Oxygen plants will be installed in high-need locations and especially rural locations in the country.
Procurement, project management support, installation of plants will be supported by GiveIndia and PATH, the two non-profit organisations.
GiveIndia is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Bengaluru that operates to alleviate poverty established in 2000. The organisation has over two million donors according to its website.
PATH, formerly known as Program for Appropriate Technology in Health is a global non-profit organisation based in Seattle. According to its website, they have over 1,600 employees working for them. They predominantly work in the areas of public health, hygiene and vaccination across the world. In India, they have worked in rural areas on ethical lapses in vaccination etc.
