India: Court docket orders seize, radio-collaring, translocation of rogue elephant Arikomban

The Kerala High Court docket on Thursday ordered the seize, radio-collaring, and translocation of Arikomban, a rogue wild elephant wreaking havoc in the Chinnakanal and Shanthanpara regions of Idukki district.

The court has also suggested the district collector of Idukki to in my thought oversee the tusker’s switch to the Parambikulam Tiger Reserve.

An expert committee appointed by the High Court docket to advocate steps to retain Arikomban from roaming among human settlements released a document advocating the animal’s seize and translocation.

The HC acknowledged, “No celebrations or beating of drums or bursting of crackers will be allowed wherever scheme the animal after its seize or for the length of its transport.”

The Kerala High Court docket had rejected the plea of the woodland division to tranquilise and seize the wild elephant on March 29.

Earlier, the Kerala High Court docket scheduled a diverse evening session for the first time to listen to petitions from campaigners to indulge in the rights of untamed animals and to close an operation to seize Arikomban, a wild elephant, unless March 29.

Kerala’s woodland division had planned to make use of four Kumki elephants, Kunju, Konni Surendran, Suryan, and Vikram, to uncover ‘Arikomban,’ the rogue wild elephant causing havoc in the Chinnakanal and Shanthanpara region, a hilly allotment of Kerala’s Idukki district. Arikomban became given the name of a wild tusker. (Ari: rice, Kombam: tusker).
