India deploys all-girls platoon of peacekeepers to UN mission in Abyei

India will initiate deploying girls peacekeepers as section of its United Nations Meantime Security Pressure for Abyei (UNISFA) in South Sudan, country’s foreign minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar announced on Friday. 

“A Platoon of girls peacekeepers deployed this day as section of the Indian Battalion in UNISFA, Abyei,” Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said. “Our cherished custom of UN Peacekeeping displays Nari Shakti (girls taking price),” he added, pointing in direction of India’s rich history of contributing in UN peacekeeping missions.
