India to produce J&J covid vaccines as part of QUAD initiative

NEW DELHI– India will produce the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine under the QUAD initiative. The main reason for this step is to support the QUAD or the Indo-Pacific region with sufficient medicines or vaccines to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sources say the entire project will be funded by Japan and the U.S. Meanwhile, Australia will use its logistics capability to ship the Made In India vaccines to Southeast Asia and Pacific Countries.

This update is considered one of the striking takeaways from Friday’s first-ever QUAD Summit between top leaders- PM Narendra Modi, President Joe Biden, Yoshihide Suga, and President Scott Morrison to pursue mutual interests.

Certainly, India’s role in the project will strengthen the country’s credentials as a trusted producer and provider of quality COVID vaccines. It will also strengthen India’s position as a global “pharmacy,” while strengthening ties and protecting people.

Secondly, the probability of another takeaway of the summit could come from the area of technology as well as climate change. All four nations would be diversifying and looking ahead to new ways of creating reliable and trusted tech development chains. It has been stated that it could be anything from a mutual or joint development of 5G networks or the climate change into a major part of policy and coordinated approach said by Biden.

Last year, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited Tokyo for the second foreign ministers’ meeting on October 6. And the third meeting was held virtually. The conversations were held in the midst of a global pandemic due to covid-19.

Last week, India’s Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu said during one of the speeches in Washington that QUAD is more than just a security mechanism, it is a way of acting together for the future betterment. It is an arrangement, not a coalition, not a partnership, not an alliance, because it has larger goals and objectives. There’s a positive agenda- said by him. While the members of the QUAD had an interaction, there was a massive and broader approach to be political democracies, pluralist societies, economies, and much more. And they all work well together on these issues besides the differences.
