Jagdeep Dhankhar takes oath as India’s 14th vice president

Jagdeep Dhankhar took oath as India’s fourteenth vice president on Thursday.

Dhankhar had defeated Margaret Alva in the election held final week as he garnered 528 of the overall right votes. Alva had secured 182 votes in the election.

President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Dhankhar at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dhankhar’s predecessor M Venkaiah Naidu were also latest all the procedure by the swearing-in ceremony.

Earlier within the day, Jagdeep Dhankhar visited the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat.

Dhankhar, 71, had earlier been within the Congress and Janata Dal ahead of joining BJP in 2003.
