Dame Karen Pierce has been appointed Britain’s ambassador to the United States. She became the first woman to hold the position, the most prominent in the diplomatic service. She is currently serving as the UK’s permanent representative to the United Nations. She will replace Kim Darroch who had resigned in 2019 over his controversial comments on US President Donald Trump in leaked diplomatic cables. Dame Karen Pierce: Pierce was posted to Tokyo, the Balkans, and Geneva after she joined the Foreign Office. In 2015-16, she served as the UK’s ambassador to Afghanistan. She held the position as political director at the Foreign Office before heading to the UN.
