One of the largest cab networks Ola plans to launch its electric scooter in the Indian market in July 2021 and is also analyzing the market for setting up a Hypercharger Network to involve 1 lakh charging points covering almost 400 cities, reported by PTI.
The company didn’t release any further details like what would be the pricing of the e-scooter and how services will be availed. But they stated one point clearly- “its e-scooters will be priced “aggressively” to make them affordable to purchasers in India. It is also thinking of exporting its services to foreign markets.
The Hyperhcharging network and stations will be capable of charging 50% of the Ola scooter battery in 18 minutes, with which you can cover 75 km of distance. Back in 2020, it has announced an investment of Rs 2,400 for setting up its first electric scooter industry or facility in Tamil Nadu. the manufacturing unit will initially have an annual capacity of producing 2 million units.
The CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman, and CEO announced and stated- “Electric is the future of mobility and we are reimagining the entire user experience of owning an electric vehicle. Our plan to build a comprehensive charging network is a key piece of this. By creating the world’s largest and densest 2-wheeler charging network, we will dramatically accelerate the customer adoption of electric vehicles and rapidly move the industry to electric.”
The plans suggest the company will set up 5,000 and more charging points across 100 cities in the first year in India, later moving to the international marketplace. The stations will be integrated as standalone towers as well as infamous locations such as malls, IT parks, office complexes, cafes to ensure that while charging the user can wait and get access to nearby places.
The company also stated on its website- “Automated, multilevel charging, and parking systems in popular areas across multiple cities ensure you’ll easily find a place that’s always up for charging”.
The users can avail of the services via application, and seamlessly pay, and can monitor the charging. It will also involve a home charger that will need no pre-installation and you can charge vehicles at home by plugging into a regular wall socket for charging.
When the PTI asked about the impact of Covid-19, the spokesperson said there hasn’t been any major disruption to date, and we will make sure to survive in tough times without any major influence.
