Prarambh: A Startup India International Summit that connects, catalyse, and collaborates

“Startup India movement reflects the new India, driven by the energy, enthusiasm, and enterprise of our youth”-Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Bangalore- Department for promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India has organized “Prarambh”-Startup India International Summit in a virtual format to help the startups in their next movement.

Prarambh means “an auspicious beginning”, this is a verb that implies “to start.” This summit is to bring together the top policymakers, industry, academia, investors, startups, and all stakeholders across the globe. This summit was about discussing the good practices from the best of the ecosystem globally. The session was designed to highlight the spread and in-depth information about entrepreneurship on the basis of innovation in India. The pivotal motive is to drag the attention of the global capital for startups in India. Also, its aim is to mobilize domestic capital and providing opportunities for retrieving international markets to Indian startups, and evolve enabling policy provisions.

Objectives of Prarambh

  • To Encourage and inspire the youth for innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Exchanging knowledge on best practices on nurturing startup ecosystems
  • Developing capabilities of entrepreneurial ecosystem
  • Mobilizing global and domestic capital for investments into startups
  • Providing opportunities to startups for entering domestic (private and public) and international markets
  • Highlighting high-quality, high technology and frugal innovations from India
  • Enabling ease of doing business for startups and investors.

Today, the first day of the Summit was devoted to hosting dignitaries and stakeholders from the BIMSTEC Member States. In today’s summit, everyone witnessed the participation of renowned stakeholders from startup communities of BIMSTEC member states engaged in multilateral discussions and highlighting their innovations.

“Startup Thailand has been recognized as an agency nationally and internationally” – Dr. Pun-Arj Chairatana, Executive Director, National Innovation Agency, Government of the Kingdom of Thailand.

“Entrepreneurship is our top priority and engine of our country” – H.E. Mr. Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth and Sports, Sri Lanka.

“This summit has come at an opportune moment, and the summit is the perfect platform to work together, share ideas and build resilient economic strategies in the region.” – H.E. Mr. Lyonpo Loknath Sharma, Minister of Economic Affairs, Bhutan

There was discussion about the modern technologies and changes in the market dynamics in the last one year. Several points have been discussed on how to realign the market strategy. Even in this summit, everyone came to know how women entrepreneurship is driving change in demographic characteristics of the business and economic growth. Additionally, women change-makers from BIMSTEC nations have discussed solutions for overcoming the gender gap in the venture capital and startup landscape.

“Women contribute significantly to the GDP of Bangladesh. A large part of microentrepreneurs are women. If you bring them into the financial inclusion safety net, empower them, they’d be the growth drivers”, Ms. Tina Jabeen, MD & CEO, Startup Bangladesh Ltd.

“We need to empower women entrepreneurs, where we don’t have to put effort to integrate them in the mainstream”, Dr. Renu Swarup, Secretary, DBT.

Kunal Bahl, CEO of Snapdeal shared tips on go-to-market strategy. Also, in this incredible session, some of the most successful entrepreneurs and international entrepreneurs shared their thoughts and experience.
