IITK Alumni donate money for installation of new gym equipment at Old Sports Complex

The growing health conscious society is leaving no stone unturned to stay fit in this pandemic situation. With New Year already on cards, the growing tech-savvy generation is taking vows and resolutions to stay healthy and fit in this New Year. IIT Kanpur is no exception to it; it has already joined the band wagon to be healthy and fit. The alumni of IIT Kanpur have proved to be Good Samaritans by donating around Rs. 12.65 lakhs (Rs. 1265904)for procurement of gym equipment for Old Sports Complex at IIT Kanpur. The health conscious IIT Kanpur Community was already making good use of Old Sports Complex but now with the procurement of advanced fitness equipment, it has taken the fitness to the next level. The main objectivebehind this donation by the alumni is to make future generations of IIT Kanpur to be fit, firm and healthy. The alumni who themselves were health conscious during their stay at IIT Kanpur, desire the future batches of IIT Kanpur to be salubrious (healthy).

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Jayant Kumar Singh, Dean of Resources and Alumni, IIT Kanpur said that the Institute would like to support such activities which are for the wellness of the students and he also emphasized on the importance of promoting fitness in one’s daily regime. Expressing his gratitude on the efforts of the IIT Kanpur alumni, he said that alumni of IIT Kanpur came forward to augment the facilities at Old Sports Complex which will help students to be fit. He said “IIT Kanpur has a strong culture for sports and other co-curricular activities and with generous support from the alumni time to time, these facilities can be taken to the next level.” He further added that IIT Kanpur seeks continuous support from its alumni to make this happen in future also. He reiterated the fact that many students from IIT Kanpur will be the future sportsmen of India and as an Institute, one has the responsibility to provide avenues for students to explore their creativity.
