On Friday, Walmart, one of the e-commerce giants, announced that it would use its global resources to expand support for Covid-19 relief in India, to let it fight against the second wave.
In addition, the company with its associates Flipkart, PhonePe, and others will work to counter the severe oxygen shortages, vaccination drives, donations to non-profit organizations or NGOs working towards the cause of the deadly virus.
The President and CEO Doug McMillion said “Walmart is a global family. We feel the impact of this surge on our associates, friends, and families across India, and we must come together to help however we can”.
To move forward, the company pledged to donate around 3000 oxygen concentrators and 500 oxygen cylinders to India. It will also be releasing a fund for supporting the supply of oxygen concentrators as part of the US-India Business Council and US-India Strategic Partnership Forum’s joint relief efforts.
It also stated that its business across the globe is looking to obtain oxygen concentrators and other medical equipment. To help with a massive hand, it said to donate 20 oxygen generating plants and around 20 cryogenic containers for storage and transportation of cylinders to the hospitals, medical institutions, or covid centers.
The company’s Walmart Foundation will also donate $2 million to NGOs. The company said Flipkart and PhonePe have set up clinics to offer vaccines at no cost to their associates, and working team members. This also adds up to over 200,000 people.
The CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy of Flipkart stated- We and our colleagues at PhonePe are committed to doing our bit to help people in this challenging time, leveraging our logistics powers and mobilizing resources towards the most critical needs of patients and healthcare professionals.
