Will US and China Cooperate in Africa?

Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that China will develop a plan to promote cooperation in Africa over the next three years, with a focus on South Africa, Africa’s second-largest economy. 

Chinese officials raised how Africa would receive defense and security assistance. The purpose of the CADSF showed an unidentified participant that China has an interest in separating Africans from the United States, promoting arms sales, and potentially securing more military bases in Africa, according to the report. China is Africa’s largest trading partner, with Sino-African trade exceeding $200 billion annually, according to the International Monetary Fund. Trade between China and Africa has increased so much that China is now Africa’s “largest trading partner,” overtaking the United States.

Chinese investment in the African continent has steadily increased, and China has encouraged Chinese companies to step up their investment and technological cooperation in Africa. In 2009, China was Africa’s largest trading partner and hopes to work with Africa to deepen integration of industrial supply chains.

Driven by China-Africa cooperation, other countries are turning their attention more to Africa, which offers more opportunities for its development.
