On Thursday Vedanta- the leading producer of oil, metal, and gas, Chairman Anil Agarwal pledged Rs 150 crores to support India in its fight against the deadly second wave of Covid-19. In 2020, the amount was over Rs 201 crore that was spent by Vedanta Group, said in a statement.
Not only this, but the company also assured to create some additional capacity of 1,000 critical care beds in 10 cities across the nation to support the covid center and states in these highly challenging times.
These beds will be placed in state-of-the-art field hospitals, which will be attached to the identified and reputed healthcare centers. Each facility will have around 100 beds in an air-conditioned tent with electrical device support and designed specifically for COVID care.
The facilities will have 90 beds equipped with life-saving oxygen support while the others will have ventilator support to ease the oxygen shortage”.
Moreover, he added- “I am deeply concerned and anguished to see the impact of the second wave of COVID-19 and loss of precious lives. Vedanta Group has come forward to pledge Rs 150 crore towards our commitment to fight the pandemic and we stand firmly with our people and the government at this difficult time”.
The states that will have these facilities are Rajasthan, Odisha, Jharkhand, Goa, and Delhi-NCR. The company is all set to commission the first set of care facilities within 2 weeks and the others will be integrated within a month. Vedanta has figured this support for a minimum 6 month period.
Currently, Vedanta is backing up around 700 beds for COVID patients across its business locations, and this will be raised as per the need most estimated is till 1,000. Several other giants like Hindustan Zinc, ESL, and Sesa Goa iron ore business also stepped in to augment oxygen supplies as part of the collaborative Vedanta Cares initiative. Lastly, it is also working closely with the government authorities and other local bodies to offer medical facilities seamlessly.
