WorldRemit, a leading digital payments platform, is waiving their fees on money transfers to the Philippines in light of the recent tropical storm. Customers will be able to send money from across the world to the Philippines with no WorldRemit service fees from 4th November to 10th November 2020.

Goni, which is also known as tropical storm Rolly in the Philippines, has led to multiple deaths and caused widespread devastation leading to over 370,000 people being displaced and the destruction of thousands of homes. Bicol, Quezon and Virac on Catanduanes Island have been most severely hit with estimates suggesting that 90% of buildings were destroyed. Communication lines are down and residents have been left without access to electricity and water.

“Like the entire global community, the Philippines has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic but must now also deal with the devastation caused by this natural disaster. This is why we are waiving our fees for anyone who wants to support the people of the Philippines during this challenging time. A number of those on the ground will be relying on this source of income to help rebuild their lives. With communication lines down, we know that many in the diaspora will be anxious to connect with family and friends back home through sending money transfers. Waiving our fees on transactions to the Philippines is our way of showing our solidarity and support to the global Philippine community”, said Earl Melivo, Country Director for the Philippines at WorldRemit.

Through the WorldRemit website or mobile App, customers can send support to their family and friends in the Philippines free of charge using the code “PHRolly” to complete the transaction. Terms and Conditions apply.
