India: BJP MP claims Mahua Moitra took bribes to attach a quiz to questions in Parliament; TMC leader welcomes probe

Indian Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey from High Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Win together (BJP), on Sunday (Oct 15) accused Mahua Moitra from the opposition Trinamool Congress (TMC) of taking bribes for asking questions in the Parliament and called for her “quick suspension”. Responding to the allegations, the TMC leader has acknowledged that she would welcome any probe into the claim.

What are the allegations?

In a letter to the speaker of Lok Sabha (lower home of parliament) Om Birla, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey demanded constructing an inquiry committee in opposition to Moitra and sought her “quick suspension” alleging that he has “irrefutable proof” that bribes had been exchanged between her and businessman Darshan Hiranandani.

Dubey acknowledged that the TMC leader obtained “cash” and “gifts” to attach a quiz to questions in Parliament claiming that out of Moitra’s latest 61 questions, 50 “shockingly stare files, with the intent of defending or perpetuating trade pursuits of Shri Darshan Hiranandani and his Firm.”
