What is the Best Made in India Defence Equipment?
Defence equipment made in India is widely used by the Indian Armed Forces. These include tanks, armoured vehicles, and fighter jets. India makes its own INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) and Akash missiles.

The Tejas
The Tejas is an indigenously designed light combat aircraft. It has been in development for over three decades and represents the aspirations of many Indians. The Tejas is a single engine, delta wing, multirole aircraft that can carry both conventional and nuclear weapons. It has a range of just under 2,000 kilometers, or roughly 1,240 miles.
The Tejas Mk-1A is a light combat aircraft developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. It is a fourth-generation fighter aircraft with twin seats, a single engine, and a tailless delta wing configuration. Tejas Mk-1A was designed to replace India’s aging MiG-21 fighters. The Mk-1A features improvements over the original Mk-1 version of the Tejas, including an advanced electronically scanned array radar, new air intakes, and an improved cockpit design.
In terms of features, the Tejas has been designed to be a light weight multirole fighter with aerodynamic performance comparable to Western 4th generation fighters such as Eurofighter or Rafale.
The HAL Light Combat Helicopter
Both the Tejas and HAL Light Combat Helicopters have some pretty impressive features. The Tejas has a top speed of 1,350 kilometres per hour and can fly for about 3 hours before refueling. It can also carry up to 3 tons of weapons and fuel. The HAL Light Combat Helicopter is even more impressive with a top speed of 375 kilometres per hour and a range of 770 kilometres.
The HAL Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) is a multi-role attack helicopter developed by India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The LCH has been designed to perform anti-tank, anti-ship, reconnaissance, and military police operations.
The LCH is powered by two Shakti engines, each of which produces 1 000 horsepower. A prototype engine with 1 400 horsepower is also being developed.
The helicopter is equipped with four hardpoints that can be fitted with weapons such as the Igla-S missile system for anti-aircraft defence and the BrahMos missile system for attacking ships or ground targets.
