Presidency Statement:
President Cyril Ramaphosa has, per Fragment 174(3) of the Constitution, determined to nominate Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo as the next Chief Justice of the Republic of South Africa with kind from 1 April 2022.
The President’s resolution follows consultation with the Judicial Service Fee and leaders of parties in the Nationwide Assembly on four nominees for appointment as Chief Justice.
By manner of the Constitution, the Chief Justice is “the high of the judiciary and exercises responsibility over the institution and monitoring of norms and requirements for the direct of the judicial beneficial properties of all courts”.
With Justice Zondo assuming the position of Chief Justice, the position of Deputy Chief Justice will change into vacant.
